GOVERNOR GENERAL’S INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR CANADIAN STUDIES
Ottawa, April 25th, 2012 - The International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) is pleased to announce that the Governor General’s International Award for Canadian Studies will be presented to Simon Langlois next May 26th during the ICCS banquet to be held in Ottawa. Each year, this award honours a researcher who makes an important contribution to the international development of Canadian studies.
Simon Langlois earned his doctorate in sociology from Université de Paris–Sorbonne (Paris IV). He has been teaching for more than 35 years at Université Laval and is currently Director of the university’s sociology department. He has published six books, alone and in collaboration, and has edited a dozen works and seven special journal editions, in addition to publishing more than a hundred contributions including scientific articles and book chapters.

As the bibliographies of Canadianists make clear, Simon Langlois’ work is essential and inescapable reading, for example, Société québécoise en tendances (1960-2000) and his participation in l’Annuaire du Québec from 1996 to 2006, as well as his countless contributions to various dictionaries and encyclopaedias. His writings make a significant contribution to Canadian studies; he has studied Quebecois society by examining relationships between Quebec and French-speaking communities in Canada, always keeping in mind the place which Quebec occupies within the country. Simon Langlois has also been interested in the analysis of social stratification, for example, his pioneering work on two-income households, studies on the middle class, and poverty measurement. He is also an expert in the analysis of household consumption, a theme on which he has published many studies.
Simon Langlois also coordinates, since 1987, the well-known international group Comparative Charting of Social Change (CCSC). He was the president, on two separate occasions, of the Association canadienne des sociologues et anthropologues de langue française and was also vice-president of the Association internationale des études québécoises.

Call for Papers

The 2012 Conference for the Pacific Asia Network of Canadian Studies (PANCS)
September19--22, 2012

Formed in 2006, PANCS brings together the Associations for Canadian Studies in the Asian Pacific region, with the objective of fostering linkages, encouraging new research and developing an Asia Pacific dimension of Canadian Studies. Since 2007, graduate seminars have been held with a wide variety of papers ranging from environment, economics and international relations to literature. Two such seminars were held in Hong Kong and New Delhi in 2007, followed by one in Brisbane in July 2008, one in Osaka, Japan in 2009 and one in Jerusalem in 2010, and one in Soul, Korea in October 2011.

The conference will include the presidents’ meeting and a graduate seminar. For this year’s conference, the theme is “Canadian and Asian Cultures in the Vision of World Civilianization,” analyzing issues pertaining to culture, civilization, literature, education,
language, energy, environment, tourism, politics, law, diplomacy and media. The speakers are encouraged to discuss the following issues: 1. Canadian systems and Asia-Canada cultural relationship; 2. soft power and Asia-Canada cultural industry; 3. Canadian ethnic issues and multiculturalism; 4. Canadian literature and language; 5. Canadian education, geography, history and art. Papers can be country-specific, comparative or regional in focus. Graduate students are encouraged to submit their proposals. Full paper submission will be notified later. The deadline for submission of abstracts is June 30, 2012, and all enquiries and submission of abstracts should be made to the Conference Secretariat, Dr. Jin Haina and a copy to Prof. Wang Bing.（メアド省略）

Accepted participants will receive free registration, accommodations and meals. At least,
70% of the airfare will be provided by the conference.

　2012年5月31日応募締切の第25回日本カナダ学会研究奨励賞につきましては、募集要項をリリースしておりますが、今回より下記のように応募資格が拡大されております。若手の大学院在籍者だけではなく、いわゆるオーバードクターの皆さんや新たにカナダ研究に取り組んでおられる社会人大学院生の方なども要件を満たせば応募可能ですので、是非とも、多くの皆さまから応募いただきたく、ご案内申し上げます。

新しい応募資格：

「日本国民または日本在住者で、応募締切日において大学院に在学している者若しくは大学院を修了又は退学してから５年未満の者。あるいは、満40歳未満の者。」

日本カナダ学会は、カナダに関する研究を奨励し、若手研究者の育成に寄与することを目的として、優秀な論文に対して研究奨励賞を授与します。奮ってご応募ください。

(1) 論文の要件：
　 カナダに関する研究論文で、応募締切日より起算して過去１年以内に学術誌等に発表されたもの、もしくは未発表のもの。テーマや領域は問わない。用語は日本語・英語・仏語のいずれか。

(2) 論文の分量：
　邦文は横書きで400字80枚相当を上限とする(図表、注を含む)。Ａ４判ワープロ仕上げが望ましい。欧文は15,000語以内(図表、注を含む)＝Ａ４判ダブルスペース。いずれの場合も、１論文につき、コピー２部(正副合計３部)を提出すること。著者名、論文名、所属、略歴、連絡先（郵便及び電子メール）をカヴァーレターに明記すること。また、応募書類は返却しない。

(3) 応募資格：
　 日本国民または日本在住者で、応募締切日において大学院に在学している者もしくは大学院を修了又は退学してから５年未満の者。あるいは満40歳未満の者。

(4) 論文の推薦：
　応募要件に該当する既発表論文について、学会役員が推薦した場合、それを応募論文として取り扱う。

(5) 募集の締め切り：
2012年5月31日(必着)。
